Ahh I see you just edited ;)

Well, Prep is my top favorite book EVER. So yes, I would definitely recommend it. Though be warned it's not for everyone - I know that many people hated it. It just resonated with me, I suppose, the way no other book has. I say, give it a chance and see how it goes! Definitely worth the read.

Andandand, Jessica Darling = LOVE! <3 They're extremely witty, funny, hilarious, insightful, etc. Kind of gives you a chick lit feel, but I'm the type of person who's very opposed to the valley girl voice typical of stereotypical chick lit, so to me they're above that, top tier, accomplished chick lit. I don't see how someone could NOT identify with Jessica on some level - you'd have to be an alien!

Carol -- were you replying to me? Cos all you did was quote my message :P

Yes I was replying to you. What are the Jessica Darling books and is Prep good?

My school library doesn't have Prep but hopefully they'll have the Jessica Darling books. Who writes them? I'll try to get Prep from my local library after I pay off all my fines. Oh and how many books are in the Jessica Darling series?

Prep is by Curtis Sittenfeld.

JD is by Megan McCafferty (very nice person, by the by). Four books, with the fifth (and final) coming out in April 2009.

Sloppy Firsts
Second Helpings
Charmed Thirds
Fourth Comings
Perfect Fifths

The first two are really easy to get into, and they go by so quickly. The third took a little getting used to because Jessica's older and she begins being a little more dense in her writing. (Not a bad thing. It's just different and I know many readers were turned off by the change in direction, especially in Jessica's relationship with Marcus. But people grow up, and when they grow up, things are not as ideal and fairy tale-ish as they sometimes are in high school. Reality, meet the real world.)

Fourth Comings is the one I'm reading now and it's harder to get into than Charmed Thirds, but it's still funny and worth reading. I know what the ending is, and I'm depressed about it, but I appreciate Megan's candor in the trajectory of Jessica's life.

Perfect Fifths will be almost fully in third person, which is huge for the series - so far it's all been in Jessica's perspective.

Honestly, get them (both Prep and JD)! These are among the books I think every girl is doing themselves a disservice by not reading.

I will second Steph's suggestions. I have yet to read Fourth Comings but I really liked the first three. Prep was really good too but definitely not for everyone! I also LOVED Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.

Alright. Thanks Steph and I'll try to get the first two JD books from my school's library tomorrow.

Fourth Comings was a bit disappointing to me. I didn't like how it was only a week long were as the other three were like a few years long. Second Helpings is my favorite, what about you, Steph? Also, I haven't heard that Perfect Fifths will be in third person! No! I really dislike third person! Oh, well.

Prep sounds good. I'll have to check if my library has it.

This is going to sound cliche but... Twilight and Harry Potter! I've read both series multiple times. Love them. Also, Heart of Fire by Victoria Holmes and Sarah Dessen novels.

Well I'm assuming it'll be in third person. Because the excerpt of it was. On the back of the paperback of Fourth Comings. I don't mind either way, really, because I trust Megan's writing and storytelling abilities :)

I loved Second Helpings the most, too. I divide the series in two categories: The first two books create a sort of magic most teens find somewhere in their adolescence; and the other two are when the magic has passed and you have to face the real world. They're all realistic, IMO, just different phases of realism.

Yes, I agree with the two categories. The books take very different feelings from Second Helpings to Charmed Thirds, in a good way. Jessica is still herself, but in a much more grown up way then in her junior/senior years of HS. Charmed Thirds is a good one too, I like how it went through her college life and she changed so much. She changed a ton throughout ALL the books actually. I'm just so excited to find out how it all wraps up in Perfect Fifths.

There was speculation in a fan community on LJ that the entire book would take place at an airport. I don't think this is true, but I wouldn't put it past Megan ...

I'd love to see how it would turn out!

the Twilight Saga ( i usually don't read a book more than once unless it's amazing, but i've read them so many times!)

My school library doesn't have Prep OR the Jessica Darling books. That sucks since I owe like $8 at my public library and I can't check out books. I guess I won't be reading them anytime soon :(
